The Carl Duisberg Centren design its websites to be as accessible as possible. The accessibility requirements are set out in sections 3 (1) to (4) and 4 of the German Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung, BITV 2.0BITV 2.0), pursuant §12a of the German Disability Discrimination Act (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz, BGG).

Compatibility status with the requirements

Our aim is to make our websites as generally available as possible, regardless of technical possibilities and limitations. For this reason, we are constantly improving the user-friendliness of our websites. The editorial content has been checked as part of a self-assessment.

Preparation of the present declaration

The websites are partially compatible with EU Directive 2019/882 (European Accessibility Act, EAA) and the German law to improve accessibility (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG) due to the following exceptions.

Non-accessible content

All of the content listed below is currently not fully accessible as an exception due to disproportionate burden in accordance with Annex 4 to Sections 17, 21 and 28 BFSG.

  • PDF documents are currently not accessible.
  • There is currently no information available in German Sign Language.
  • Some videos are currently not accessible.
  • Some images do not have ALT tags.

The website has a correct semantic structure. Headings subdivide and better structure the pages. The "Sitemap" page, which is accessible via the top navigation bar, provides an overview of all content pages of the website. Click on the links to go directly to the relevant page.

Screen resolution

The website is responsive and provides an optimized display for mobile devices.

Keyboard Control and Navigation

For alternative access, you can only operate our websites using the keyboard. Use the following keys:

  • Use the tab key to select hyperlinks in the main navigation. For individual navigation areas, you may need to use the arrow keys.
  • Use the tab key to move forward between links.
  • To execute a button command, select the button and press the Enter key.
  • Use the space bar to select or deselect a checkbox in a form.

Changing the font size, zooming

To change the display size, hold down the Ctrl key and use the mouse's scroll wheel. To zoom in or out, hold down the Ctrl key and use the Plus or Minus keys, respectively. Alternatively, you can adjust the font size through your browser settings. You can find further explanations in your browser's help section.

Search and search tips

  • You will find the travel search on the travel trips website Sprachreisen, at the top left of the main navigation bar, highlighted in orange.
  • You will find the search for language courses and language exams on the language courses website, at the top right of the main navigation bar, highlighted in orange.

You can limit all search results using various filters.

The online forms are designed to be technically accessible. This ensures that users can make inquiries or applications, perform content searches, and carry out interactions without restriction.

Read aloud

Many browsers offer an integrated read-aloud function that reads the page aloud. In Microsoft Edge, press the Ctrl + Shift + U keyboard shortcut to access Read Aloud.

The BGG NRW Arbitration Board is responsible for supporting the out-of-court settlement of disputes between disabled people and federal public bodies regarding accessibility. The arbitration procedure is free of charge. No legal assistance is required.
