Certificate of German (ZD)

The exam Zertifikat Deutsch (ZD) is recognized and accepted around the world as proof of the successful completion of the Basic Level in German. The ZD is proof of language skills at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (GER). In order to be able to successfully complete this exam, you will have taken from ca. 350 to 600 teaching units of German.

The contents and the level of the Zertifikat Deutsch exam is comparable to the Carl Duisberg German Diploma Basic Level. Both exams can be taken after the completion of level 4 of our German course system.

The Zertifikat Deutsch is proof that the students are able to effectively use the German language in many daily situations as well as in their profession. That means that the student is able to handle all important demands in German.

Exam structure

Zertifikat Deutsch consists of a written and an oral examination.

The written examination consists of four separate tests:
Test 1: Understanding written German
Test 2: Language building blocks
Test 3: Understanding spoken German
Test 4: Writing skills

The oral examination consists of three parts
Part 1: Getting in touch with others
Part 2: Talking about a topic
Part 3: Solving a task together
